01 — The Return

/haɪ jɑːr/ — a traditional Burmese boxing cry, shouted before the fight.

There was a time the band had to leave — the scene, the audience, and the place they called home. For a while the distance between EXTANT and the people who listened to them grew wider than any of them expected.
It didn't end the music. It changed it. The band returns with a new sound, a six-song concept album, and a cry that runs the length of the record: HAIYAR. Shouted before the fight, not after it.
This is the return. And it is only the beginning.

Cross The Rubicon
The band's own framing for the turn: a new direction, and a raw, unfiltered sound they have never made before. The Rubicon is the river you only cross once.

EXTANT’s vocalist and the winner of The Voice Myanmar in 2019. His blind audition brought Slipknot’s “Spit It Out” to national television. Before EXTANT, he sang with Myanmar metal band Nightmare; his work also includes solo releases and collaborations across the local rock scene.

Oo Japan, known as Japan of the Myanmar rock band Idiots, plays drums with EXTANT. Credited as “Japan Idiots” on P Tripper, Dog Eat Dog and Main Character Syndrome, he connects the band’s rhythm section with Myanmar’s wider rock scene.

A five-piece built out of Myanmar's underground metal circuit, playing djent and metalcore in a scene dominated by pop and rock.

2019
Novem Htoo wins The Voice Myanmar
Novem Htoo wins The Voice Myanmar Season 2 after a blind audition with Slipknot’s Spit It Out. In the final, he performs a song by Idiots — another connection between the two bands.

2020
The Burmese lyric-video run
Four releases in three months — Untie The Knot, Vengeance, This Is The War and Disregard — mixed by Ko Ye Zaw Myo (Big Bag). This Is The War becomes the band's most-played upload.

2021
Stages, then exile
A live set from the TGIF show in Taunggyi lands in January. The coup follows in February. The band later described having to leave the scene, the audience and the place they called home — and the distance that opened up between them and the people who listened.

Revolution Means
Novem Htoo releases a solo single on Burmese Guerrillas in collaboration with Artists' Shelter, featuring The BigBoyToy and Japan (Idiots) — out across Apple Music, Spotify, Tidal, Deezer and YouTube Music.

2025
Back on camera
Dog Eat Dog and Main Character Syndrome arrive five days apart in November — the first proper music videos with the current four-piece lineup, shot with Ko Kaung on photography and Latt Pan Ni Production on lights.

Aggressive Evolution, then HAIYAR
Back Off lands in May off the Aggressive Evolution record. P Tripper follows on 29 August and clears five thousand plays in a day. Days later the band announces the return: a six-song concept album carrying the HAIYAR cry.
